Durrës is a beautiful seaside city on the west coast of Albania, along the Adriatic Sea. There are many things to do in Durrës, especially in the summer. On the hottest days, many people from the capital come down for a visit to smell the sea and take a walk along the beach. 


Durrës is among the oldest settlements in Albania, having been inhabited since the 7th century BC. If you look around, you can find numerous significant ancient remains, but we’ll get into those later. There are buses from Tirana to Durrës that depart regularly at the Dogana Roundabout. The ride takes about 45 minutes, and the roads are in great condition, so the trip is more than comfortable. 


A ticket costs only €1.5, and buses depart every 30 minutes, from 6:30 a.m. to 19:30 p.m. daily. 


You can also catch a taxi from Tirana to Durrës. A taxi ride can cost about €18–€22, but it’s best if you discuss the price with the driver beforehand. There are numerous taxi companies in Tirana, such as SpeedTaxi, CityTaxi, etc.

If you want to drive your own car at your own pace, it’s easy to drive from the center of Tirana to Durrës. It’s a straight road until the highway to Durrës, so it shouldn’t be confusing. Once you reach the highway, there are signs all along the road. The trip takes about 45 minutes, covering a distance of around 36 kilometers.
