Getting to south Albania by car is a very convenient and scenic way. You’ll get to enjoy amazing views of the riviera, and you can also make stops whenever you want. 


The roads are in good condition, so the journey should be safe and pleasant. The duration of the trip depends on where your first destination will be. From Tirana to Berat, it’s usually a 2-hour drive, whereas a road trip from Tirana to Sarandё will probably take you closer to 4 hours.

If you don’t want to drive, you can choose to take a bus and go to your desired destination. There are bus lines in Tirana that cover every city in the south, and they depart every hour or so. 


The buses heading for the south are located on the ‘’South and North Bus Terminal’’ at the Tiranë-Rinas highway. They are comfortable and have air conditioning, so you’re sure to have a pleasant journey.

For a more scenic journey, you can get to the south by ferry. There are ferry ports located in Vlorё, Sarandё, and Durrёs. You can also catch a ferry from Saranda to Corfu, as the port is very close.

The spring is surrounded by vibrant greenery, which blends perfectly with the color of the water.


It’s more than 50 meters deep, and the water is ice cold. Swimming in the Blue Eye is actually prohibited, but most people can’t resist jumping in the refreshing water. The entrance fee is 50 ALL, or 0.40€ per person.


#6. Butrint

  • There are some restaurants or shops that take payments by card in Albania, but cash is the safest bet, so be sure to have some wherever you go. The Albanian currency is LEK. Some places use euros too, but the exchange rate isn’t too great, so it’s best to stick with the local currency. 


  • The south of Albania is extremely hot in the summer, so keep that in mind. Make sure to pack a good SPF and a hat, or, if you can’t stand the extreme heat, try visiting during the late summer (August–September).



  • Albania is a very safe country. Whether you’re traveling with your family, partner, or alone, you’ll have no problems with safety. The people are warm and welcoming, and they will make sure you feel at home.
