Situated about six kilometers from Vlorë, Kaninё Castle was built in the 3rd century BC, initially serving as a military post for the Roman Empire. Since then, the castle has passed through numerous rulers, like the Byzantine, Norman, Ottoman, and Serbian empires.

This monument has been reconstructed various times throughout the years, most famously by Justinian I and Sultan Sulejman in the early Middle Ages. Nowadays, there isn’t much of the castle besides the walls and a few towers, but you can still explore and wander around.

The entrance fee is about €3, or 300 Albanian Lek.

Vlorё Old Town is located about 20 minutes from the hotel by car and makes for a very pleasant day trip destination. It’s a very colorful and charming neighborhood, filled with colorful houses and cute cafes along the narrow cobblestone streets.

The Old Town is a very peaceful and tranquil area, with not too many people around. It’s not exactly as old as you might think; it’s just more of a secluded part of town that gives you a chance to relax and enjoy a drink without all the chaos of normal city life.

Nestled on the Zvërneci Islands, St. Mary’s Monastery was constructed in the 13th century and home to a small chapel, the monk’s dormitories, a workshop, a warehouse, and a small cemetery, where the woman who embroidered the Albanian flag was buried.

The island is accessible through a narrow wooden bridge built in recent years. The inside of St. Mary’s Church is beautifully decorated with paintings and woodwork, while the outside part features a small garden.

Keep in mind that you cannot take photos of the inside of the church, but visiting it is still one of the best things to do in Vlorë.

The country’s largest island, Sazan, is home to the Karaburun-Sazan Marine Park, classified as an Important Bird and Plant Area, thanks to its unique ecosystems. The island was initially a military zone, and it was opened to the public in 2015.

The island can be reached only by boat or ferry and offers magnificent beaches and caves waiting to be explored by adventurous tourists.
