#1. Kaninë Castle

Kaninë Castle

Located on the outskirts of Vlora, Kaninë Castle stands on a hilltop overlooking the Albanian Riviera. It was originally a settlement for the Amantes tribe, but later on, it was turned into a religious complex.

The castle has fallen into the hands of many rulers, like the Byzantine, Serbian, and Ottoman empires. Nowadays, only some ruins are available to visit and explore, along with a few towers. There is greenery all around, creating a very pleasant scenery.

You can visit the castle for an entrance fee of about €3 per person.

#2. Lungomare, Vlorë

Lungomare, Vlorë

One of the most popular places to visit in Vlorë, Lungomare, is the main boulevard of the city. It’s lined with palm trees and seating areas, and there are various restaurants and cafes around. Lungomare is located right by the beach, providing stunning views of the coast.

It’s pretty crowded, especially during the summer evenings. There’s also a bike lane, so feel free to have a nice ride along the beach, taking in the wonderful scenery.

#3. Zvernec Island

Zvernec Island

Situated within the Narta Lagoon, Zvernec Island is one of the most unique places to visit in Albania. It’s covered in tall pine trees and can be reached through a bridge that connects it to the mainland.

The highlight of the island is definitely the Monastery of St. Mary, with its charming stone facade and red roof. It has a marvelous interior, with Byzantine frescoes and icons.

There aren’t any restaurants or cafes on the island, so be sure to pack some snacks and water with you. It’s also a very nice place for a picnic, under the shining sun and surrounded by idyllic nature.

#4. Narta Lagoon

Narta Lagoon

Formed by the continuous accumulation of solid flows of the Vjosa River, the Narta Lagoon is one of the only bird-watching areas in Albania. It’s home to over 70 endangered species and unique creatures, like the Loggerhead turtle, the Monk seal, and the Albanian Water frog.

The lagoon is named after the village of Narta and has a surface area of about 16 square miles. You can also visit the dunes of Narta, which are tall sand formations of about five meters, formed by the strong wind blowing.
